The house
was an old"Metato" built(typical place to dry chestnut frequently used
in Garfagnana),
disposed on two levels. On the main
floor, there are two marvellous lounges with a stone chimney and
a stove,
the useful and complete kitchen and a
spacious bathroom with shower. First
floor with three comfortable bedrooms and another large bathroom. In
2001 the house was completely rebuilt with wood beams and
terracotta floor
with rustic surface, maintaining the typical country style of
Garfagnana. |

GARFAGNANA L'Eremo di Calomini (Calomini hermitage) The original
religious hermitage is today fascinating and evocative place: isolated between the rocks,
composed of two

Forato It has a special shape of an arc excavated in the calcarea rock, made of corrosive action of the weather. In some periods of the year it distinguishes an evocative sight of the Pania of the Cross, observing the sunset beetwen the arc. La Pania della Croce It is the
more known Monte Matanna Close
to Cardoso. Only at 5
minutes driving there is Gallicano
where is possible to find a large
supermarket and a sporting center with swimming
pool, tennis field
, and skating place. Only at 10
minutes driving there is Barga,
a medieval city famous for musical events
(Barga Jazz), the craft market "Mercatino
artigianato"
every second week of the month , the architecture of its palaces
and the
small roads that go through the main ancient part of the
suburb.. Cardoso is
only at 20 minutes driving from Castelnuovo,
the main Typical Products The chestnut The forests of Trassilico are rich of chestnut
trees. In
the past the
chestnut has represented an irreplaceable food resource for
the inhabitants
of the place. They survived by cooking it on various ways. This is the
reason why the
Castagno tree is called the
"tree bread" . Directly
from the past cooking traditions, tourists will taste delicious recipes
with
chestnuts the suggested food are "Castagnaccio", and "Flour of
Neccio” Mushrooms The forests
of the Garfagnana are particularly rich of "porcini" edible
mushrooms,
that can be collected in the autumnal period. Delicious recipe are
prepared with
the mushrooms following Garfagnana
traditions and savour
of the origin places. Il farro della Garfagnana This Farro comes cultivated in Garfagnana, in the north-west of the Tuscany (prov. of Lucca). Dressed grain is produced from the local population of Triticum species dicoccum Schrank (). Farro is the more ancient cereal arrived to our days, already cultivated in the seventh millenium a.C. in Mesopotamia, Syria, Egypt and Palestine. In Garfagnana the cultivation of the farro hasn't never interrupted. |
